Geographic Information Systems (GIS) combines geographic and legacy attribute data to enable a better understanding of information by enabling the spatial component. GIS information can be viewed as layers of data or by performing query and analysis on the data. Connecting attribute to geographic data allows county departments to see our informaiton from a new perspective. GIS is an exciting, dynamic and rapidly-advancing technology of computer software, hardware, data and personnel used to present or view information from a new perspective. With GIS, departments can determine previously unknown relationships and patterns in attribute data that may not have been obvious in its native format.
